A beautiful example of this sought after fast and comfortable cruiser, attracting admiring looks wherever she goes.
The Westerly Ocean 33 was designed by Ed Dubois to be "A modern Oceangoing cruising yacht. Fast, comfortable, and supremely seaworthy”. It is often said to be the best boat that Westerly made (See review below). They were built and fitted out to a very high standard. This has been apparent whenever I have worked on her, for example when replacing skin fittings.
“Sandpiper” was built by Westerly in 2000, number 27 of 33 completed. I have all documentation of the original purchase.
She has been comfortable to live aboard for extended periods, with plenty of space for stowage and general clutter. We've just completed a 4 week cruise, exploring the West Country. In previous years, she has taken us to the Channel Islands and the North coast of Brittany.
We have found her easy to manage short-handed. She has always looked after us whatever the conditions.
Under sail, she is fast, well balanced and easy to manoever. With the sails set properly, you can often take your hands off the helm for quite long periods. She carries her speed well through chop and waves without slamming.
She is a very dry boat even in rough weather.
The whole boat is easy to move about in at sea, with plenty of hand-holds and places to sit comfortably.
The cockpit has been well designed, and has a sheltered “Trench” between the cabin and cockpit.
Having just been away on her, everything is working and she is good to go with no jobs outstanding.
We are looking for something larger, to go further afield for longer periods. We are selling her with real regret, having got a huge amount of enjoyment out of her.
She is priced to sell.
